Now that Fall is here I’m putting away my fun, bright statement earrings in favor of something a little more subtle. I love a good statement earring but once the weather gets cold and the layers go on, its time for something simple and easy. Besides they always seem to get stuck in my sweaters and scarves which is always a pain. So in lieu of big, fun flashy earrings I am going to show you how to make small…go with everything…won’t get stuck in your hat gold button earrings.
Gold jewelry seems to be on trend at the moment and I happen to have an abundance of gold buttons. When you come from a family of people who sew you tend to inherit a lot of sewing odd and ends. The one item I have inherited a lot of is buttons, and not just gold buttons but every kind of button you can imagine. Apparently no one in my family has ever wanted to throw away a spare button. So I am the proud owner of more buttons than I will ever need in my lifetime. I have already told my daughter that they will be hers someday. She was not amused. Anyway, I decided the gold ones would make great earrings so here we are.

Where to Purchase Your Supplies
My gold buttons came in a box from my grandmother, however you can purchase some here, here or here. All the remaining supplies I purchased on Amazon.
Putting It All Together – How to Make Gold Button Earrings
This little tutorial could not be any easier. First step gather you buttons. Next you are going to need a heavy duty wire cutter. This is the one I have, and you are going to snip the shank (the round part on the back of the button) off.
Please wear some sort of protective eye wear and the shank will most likely go flying. Then you are going to glue the earring post to the back of the button and let it dry overnight.
That’s it! These earrings are really so quick and easy to make. You also don’t have to stick with gold buttons. I’m sure you can find some very ornate buttons on Etsy or Ebay. You can also check out Joanns. They have an entire button aisle where I am sure you can something really fun!
