Happy Monday! I hope everyone is off to a great start this week. I mentioned in a previous post I have a thing for ruffles. I promised you more ruffles so here you go! I made this fun botanical print skirt using Mccalls M7606 pattern and made version C. I found the fabric at Joanne’s fabric last Spring. Unfortunately, once again it is out of stock. This fabric comes shirred around the top, so you can sew a dress with just one seam. It’s a great project for beginner sewers. Obviously, I didn’t make the dress. I just cut the shirring off the top, and made the skirt. I do love this fabric and I think it would be a great option any number of patterns. I actually have it sitting in my cart as we speak.
I wanted more ruffles for this than what were included in the pattern, so I added a second row. I also used a flounce instead of the a ruffle. In my opinion more ruffles are always a good thing. In case you’re wondering, a ruffle is usually a straight rectangular piece of fabric that is gathered at the top. A flounce is a circular piece of fabric that is smooth at the top and fuller towards the bottom. Both are sewn separately and then attached to the skirt. I used a ruffle when I made my plaid ruffle skirt, but decided to use a flounce here. I think the flounce makes this skirt more dramatic.
I know what your thinking. The print on the fabric is palm leaves, but once again I couldn’t help myself. I just love it. Maybe I’ll kick my palm print addiction someday, but today is not that day!
If your interested in buying your own version of this skirt check out this one from hm. I love the color, or this polka dot one from Anthropologie is great too.
I am currently on my way home from a vacation in Palm Springs. It’s been six days of poolside relaxing, vintage shopping and some of the most amazing meals. If you ever visit I highly recommend dinner at Mister Parker’s at The Parker Hotel. They have great steaks and great people watching. Also, the Purple Palm and Azucal are delicious too. Both of which have amazing California cuisine.
Happy Monday thanks for reading!
