I made this pink and silver brocade skirt a few years ago and for some reason I never posted it. When I made it I was going through a ruffle/flounce phase. I put a ruffle or a flounce on everything I made. You can see what I mean below.
Design Breakdown
Back to my pink and silver brocade skirt. I made this skirt using a simple 1/4 circle skirt pattern I purchased on Etsy. I used this pattern to make my olive green wool skirt. The flounce is self drafted, and measures 12 inch long.
Making a flounce is simple. Measure the circumference of the bottom of the skirt. Then draw a circle using the measurement on pattern paper. Next draw a line perpendicular from any point on the circle. The line should measure the length you want your flounce to be. Continue drawing perpendicular lines all around the circle. Then connect the lines with a circle. Cut straight up the length of the larger circle all the way to the smaller circle. then cut out the small circle. You should be left with something that resembles a donut.
I purchased the fabric from a discount fabric warehouse in NJ close to where I live. However, I found a few similar options here, here and here.
Putting it Together
This pink and silver brocade skirt sews up fairly fast. It’s only 4 pattern pieces, skirt front, skirt back, waistband and flounce.
How to Wear It
Dressed Up
A matching silver camisole, silver pointed toe flats, and a silver flex frame bag dress this up for a night out. See the tutorial for the flex frame bag.
Dressed Down
A gray short sleeve sweater, hot pink fur envelop clutch, pink suede booties (old from Boden similar here), and Happy Place by Emily Henry makes this perfect for a solo coffee date. If you are a hopeless romantic I highly recommend this book!
