I love navy and white. They just go so well together like peanut butter and jelly. I wear this navy gingham skirt about once a week. It’s really easy to throw on with a white tank top and your done. It makes for simple summer dressing, especially when it is so freaking hot these days. I want to be as cool and comfortable as possible.
Fabric – Navy Gingham Skirt
I bought this fabric at fabric.com. It’s a great site for buying fabric. Online fabric shopping can be tricky because you can’t actually touch the fabric. However, fabric.com has a great return policy, and they pay the return shipping.
You can buy navy gingham in different size squares. The one I bought is 1/4″ which is very common. However, it comes in 1″ or even 2″ squares.
Pattern – Navy Gingham Skirt
I used my favorite summer skirt pattern for this McCalls 8097. Saying I have used this pattern a lot this summer is a bit of an understatement, and I apologize if you are tired of seeing this style skirt. However, it is by far one of my favorites so it isn’t going away anytime soon!
I used view A for this. My top ruffle looks a little different that the one on the envelope. I decided to sew the ruffle right sides together, instead of wrong sides together which would make it a tiered ruffle. I used the tiered option when I made my pink gingham skirt. I admit I used a lot of gingham fabric this summer. I can’t help it, I like what I like.
I also put a zipper in my skirt. The pattern is for an elastic wait version which I made here. It give the skirt a little bit of a different look that I like.
Bermuda Bag
Let’s talk about this bag. How cute is it? I had this exact bag when I was younger. My mom found it somewhere in the house and sent it to me. They used to sell them at this very cute preppy store in the town I grew up in. It was called Papagallos. Just imagine all the pink, green & navy monogramed stuff of the 80’s. It was a very, very cute store.
Apparently these little gems are called Bermuda Bags. I had no idea. We called them Pappagallo bags because that was the name of the store we bought them from. What makes these bags so fun is that you can change the covers. I have this red one and a blue one, but I am going to be making a bunch more!
These little bags are making a comeback right now. You can buy them at Mark & Graham (how cute is the navy gingham cover?) and Etsy. I will admit they are small and not really practical, but who cares they are seriously adorable!
Kept the styling simple a white camisole, straw belt, my red strappy wedges from Banana Republic, that I have had forever, and of course my Bermuda Bag!
Just wanted to give a shout out to my new photographer – my son Sam! My regular photographer is out of town for the foreseeable future so Sam is stepping for now. Considering it was his first time taking photos I think he did a great job!
