Happy Labor Day weekend! okay so I’m a few days late, but that’s ok. Did you go anywhere or do anything fun? We were lucky enough to visit my parents who live on Lake Erie for Labor Day. We haven’t seen them since February so we were very excited to visit. It’s always about 10 degrees cooler where they are then it is in NJ, so it was a nice break from the hot weather we have been having. We didn’t really do to much much because you know COVID, but we did get to go for a ride on my dad’s boat. We also did a lot of sitting on the beach, and this pink pinstripe cover-up was the perfect thing to wear.
Pattern – Pink Pinstripe Cover-Up
I used Simplicity 8132 view C without the front slit. I cut a size 4 because this dress is very big and flowy. I didn’t want it to swallow me up so I opted for the smallest size. I find that patterns with an oversize fit tend to run larger than you think so I always size down.
This is a very simple pattern and I managed to make it in about two hours. The bais trim around the neck and arm holes adds a nice contrast, and the length was perfect. This pattern is technically a dress. It also comes with a pattern to make a bralette, because the back of the dress dips down kind of low. I skipped the bralette. I didn’t really liked the way it looked so I’m choosing to wear this as a cover-up. If you are looking for a caftan style garment that is very comfortable I highly recommend this pattern.
Fabric – Pink Pinstripe Cover-Up
I bought the fabric at Joann’s a few summers ago and was determined to make something out of it this summer. It’s pink and white pinstripe shirting fabric. It’s nice and light and worked perfectly with this pattern. Unfortunately, Joann’s fabric is very hit or miss these days. You have to be careful because some of it is very low quality which can make it difficult to sew. This fabric is on the thin side so I lined it. That way I can wear it as a cover-up or a dress. I made one other dress this Summer that is almost as comfortable as this one. You can check it out here.

It was fun taking photos on the beach. I’m usually somewhere around my house when I take pictures, so this was a really nice change of scenery. I had to bribe my daughter to take these for me. She was much more interested in swimming and playing with the other kids on the beach, so I told her I’d give her $5. What can I say money is a great motivator.
Styling
Super simple styling going on here. A beach hat, a beach bag and no shoes! This is a fun hat. I bought in Cape Cod a few Summers ago. I love the Do Not Disturb on the brim. You can shop this hat in black or this one in tan, as well as the straw bag here.
I hope you had a relaxing holiday weekend with family and friends.
Thanks for reading. Hope you are having a good week!
