Today I’m talking about this Target Polka Dot Dress refashion. Sometimes I fall in love with fabric that a dress it made out of, but not the dress itself. This is exactly what happened with this dress I found at Target.
l’m a big fan of polka dots. I know they are not for everyone and it really depends on the size and color combo of the dots. When I saw this dress at target I fell in love especially with the color. I have a thing for pink and orange. The only problem was the bodice of the dress did absolutely nothing for me. The big puffy sleeves looked over whelming and considering it’s a summer dress it also looked like it would be very hot. I figured there was something I could do to make it more to my liking so I scooped it up.
I decided to make the bodice fitted with more of a bustie look. I used this pattern from Etsy. It also comes with a mini shirt pattern that you can attach and a dress. For my Target dress refashion I only used the bodice, and it was exactly what I was looking for.
Pattern
The pattern was pretty straight forward, however it you have never sewn a bodice before be patient and take your time. They can be tricky to fit. I made one minor adjustment with the bodice and that was sewing in some bra cups. The bodice is so fitted that wearing a strapless bra would make it too tight. So I hand sewed them into the lining. I’m not a fan of hand sewing, but it was easy enough and now I don’t have to worry about my bra showing or constantly having to pull up my dress. #womenproblems
The pattern called for thick tie shoulder straps. I made quite a few dresses this summer with spaghetti straps so I opted for some adjustable ones.
Cutting a New Top
Once I took the top apart I laid out the pattern pieces. There was more than enough fabric to re-work the top. I cut everything out and made a lining. The fabric was decent quality, but I felt I needed for coverage. It also helped when sewing in the bra cups. I sewed the cup to the lining so there wouldn’t be any stitched showing on the fabric.

End Result
I really liked how my Target dress refashion turned out. I added strappy pink sandals with a matching vintage pink clutch and I’m all set!
